A Guide to Fostering Productive and Respectful Dialogue

Effective communication is the cornerstone of a thriving community. CSPRTL comprised of unpaid volunteers dedicated to the betterment of the Shores, has outlined specific guidelines to ensure all interactions are civil, productive, and focused on solutions. Adherence to these rules will facilitate a respectful environment where issues can be addressed efficiently and collaboratively.

Core Principles for All Communication:

  • Maintain Civility and Respect: All interactions with the Board must be conducted in a courteous and respectful manner. Aggressive, insulting, or derogatory comments will not be tolerated. Remember, Board members are your neighbors volunteering their time

  • Be Prepared and Solution-Oriented: When bringing an issue to the Board's attention, members are required to propose at least one or two potential solutions. This proactive approach fosters a collaborative environment and aids in quicker resolutions.

Adherence to Meeting Protocols:

  • Annual General Meetings (AGM): These meetings are designed for civil and constructive exchanges.

  • Pre-Submitted Questions: To ensure the Board can provide the most adequate and informed responses, all questions for Board meetings, including the AGM, must be submitted ahead of time. This allows for necessary research and preparation.

  • Understanding Limitations for Non-Paying Members: For individuals who are not current with their community payments, interactions with the Board will be limited. Questions from non-paying members will only be addressed if they pertain to making a payment.

Guidelines for Effective Engagement:

  1. Practice Active Listening: In any direct interactions, listen attentively to the Board's responses and feedback. Acknowledge their perspectives, even if you disagree, to foster mutual understanding.

  2. Focus on Issues, Not Personalities: Direct your comments and concerns towards the specific issues at hand, rather than making personal remarks about Board members or other community members.

  3. Respect Board Decisions and Processes: Understand that the Board operates under established bylaws and procedures. While constructive feedback is welcome, respect the final decisions made by the Board after due consideration.

  4. Acknowledge Volunteer Efforts: Keep in mind that Board members are volunteers working to make a positive difference in Consejo Shores. Acknowledging their dedication can contribute to a more positive and collaborative atmosphere.

  5. Be Patient and Allow for Due Process: Some issues may require time for research, discussion, and deliberation. Be patient as the Board works through the necessary steps to address concerns.

  6. Provide Constructive Feedback: When offering feedback, whether positive or negative, ensure it is constructive and aimed at improving the community or Board processes.

By adhering to these rules of engagement, all members can contribute to a respectful, productive, and solution-oriented relationship with the Consejo Shores Community Board, ultimately benefiting the entire community.
